Equine Studies Program at the University of Maryland
College Park, MD 20742
The Equine Studies Program at the University of Maryland offers educational programs for youth and adults interested in learning more about the care, use, and management of horses. Within the University setting, we offer classroom and hands-on laboratory activities for students within our B.S. degree program in the Animal and Avian Sciences Department and within the Institute of Applied Agriculture's Equine Business Management Certification program. Our students know very well that one of the keys to our success is having our horses housed right across the street from our classrooms at our on-campus farm. Please make sure to make our on-campus farm a stop on your tour during your next visit to campus.
Outside of the University setting, we offer exceptional educational programs to youth within the Maryland 4-H Horse Program and adults through University of Maryland Extension. Whether it is a fun horse bathing contest at the annual Horse Jamboree or a challenging quiz bowl contest at the annual Horse Bowl Contest, our 4-H youth stay active through the year! Events held at our unique Equine Rotational Grazing Demonstration site are increasingly popular with horse farm operators wanting to improve the quality of their pastures. We also educate hundreds at our annual seminar series held each year in conjunction with Horse World Expo. I sincerely hope that you will take advantage of our many educational opportunities offered by the Equine Studies Program at the University of Maryland.
