We are a private horse rescue trying to save young healthy horses from going to the slaughterhouse. We also have a program that teaches basic horse care, riding skills, and how to train a horse. All this is with the horses we have rescued. When the horses are ready, we find them new, safe homes.

Heaven Can Wait Equine Rescue is located in Cameron, Ontario, Canada - approx 1.5 hours NE of Toronto, just 10 minutes North of Lindsay. This equine rescue was started by Claire Malcolm in 1997 to help save horses and ponies from slaughter, take in any unwanted horse or pony, and find each of them a new, loving home. J&M Acres, located in Maple Ridge, BC, began in 1995 with the rescue of a badly abused, old horse, dubbed "Lucky", that was being run through the auction for slaughter.

Since then, we have purchased over 300 horses destined for slaughter and placed them in good homes. We have all breeds of horses and all ages, from 6 months to 36 years old, that have gone on to live happy, productive lives.

Unlike other horse rescues, J&M is not a retirement home. At J&M Acres, our aim is to get as many horses as possible off the meat truck and into good homes.

Most of our horses come from racetracks and auctions. We do our best to bring home as many horses as possible that we can work with in order to give better lives to them.

We are a little ranch in Vilna, Alberta. For about 4 years, we've been rescuing horses that have been mistreated, neglected, left on their own, misfed, or simply that were never handled. We also receive horses that are green, which means that they were never handled; therefore, they received no regular care like deworming, trims, etc. We give them the time that they need to trust and respect humans. Afterward, when the horse is ready to leave, we choose a proper household which has been selected with specific criteria. All of our clients have to sign a adoption contract that makes sure that the animal will be taken care of.

We believe that our brave and beautiful thoroughbred racehorses deserve a dignified retirement. Our aim is to offer an alternative to owners and trainers - rather than have horses continue to race that are no longer able to compete, LongRun tries to help by fostering, rehabilitating, and finding these racehorses permanent adoptive homes and alternative careers as pleasure horses or companion animals.

We also aim to educate the Ontario thoroughbred racing community, as well as the public, about these alternatives for retired racehorses through our work.
