Under the Angel's Wings Rescue - UAWRSilver Lakes Horse Rescue, Inc.
Helendale, CA 92342
Sadly, the thoroughbred and quarter horse racing industry are the largest "throwaway" groups of the entire horse industry.
Thousands of thoroughbred and quarterhorses foals are born every year in the hopes that a few may have a great money winning career on the track.
Horses are raced at the very early age of 2 years of age, and many are finished during and after that first year.
They will be injured on the track or they are just not fast enough. 90% of them will be discarded in one way or the other...
"I have been working for a horse racing farm for a long time and even if the care and training was all about the horses, the pressure from the customers was hard to withstand.
Once injured or not fast enough, more than I can mention the owners called us up and asked us 'to get rid of it'. Or they just stopped paying for board and care and the farm was faced with supporting the horse's needs.
That's why I decided to give these beautiful animals a new future and opened up
Silver Lakes Horse Rescue Inc., right here in the heart of the High Desert of California, where I live.
Our goal is to give as many horses the chance for re-training and finding a new home.
Through dedication and hard work and the help of my husband Dan, my family, friends and community, as well as your donations our focus is to re-train for a new career in a loving caring setting."
