In Ocala, Florida - Marion County, Florida - where traditional & natural horse training and traditional & natural horse trainers are a common sight, Ross Falisi & Dawn Falisi P.T. stand alone. They will be quick to tell you that the only thing natural about horse training is that it is an un-natural act. And traditional horse training that uses pain, force and compulsion is commonplace, inhumane, and ineffective. Their horse training and horsemanship clinics, as well as horsemanship apprenticeship schools and horse training demonstrations, emphasize a humane approach without sacrificing your safety or the performance of your equine athlete. Their attitude and their love of the equine is truly unique in that they teach not to limit yourself or your horse training by a riding discipline. In fact, whether you ride English in dressage, eventing, hunter jumper, show jumping, hunt seat, working cow, or pleasure, your horsemanship should remain consistent.

If you are a rider looking for confidence, I can help you take the necessary steps to help you build a foundation of knowledge of how to become a leader with your horse. Then it's practice, spending time with your horse, working on communication, respect, and intention.

There's an old saying, "a horse knows when you know, and he knows when you don't." I have found this to be true. Real confidence that a horse can respect will come from your body language and in presenting yourself to the horse in a calm respectful manner. A confident rider builds confidence in his horse. Horses are keen on body language, and since they are looking for a leader, they will check you out before you know it.

The other side of this equation is to find a horse that has the confidence to handle an inexperienced rider. This is a horse that has been ridden a lot and is confident in his ability. He will not overreact to a tentative rider.

"A horse has no future. It cannot greet the sun and say today will be better. It can only reflect upon days of past experiences. It is our job to create a positive past."

- Karen West

JDs Performance Horses offers professional training for your equine partner at reasonable prices. We tailor training to each individual horse and the goals the owner has. We train using "whoa" as the release; this gives a definite reward and makes a soft and quiet, yet responsive, horse. The majority of all of our horses "whoa" without using reins - just the word. We would love to talk more with you about our methods and how they work for every discipline, from English to western, from barrels and roping to western pleasure and hunt seat. Each horse is worked 5-6 days per week, rain or shine. Take a look at our horses in training, success stories, and sale barn pages for videos of past and current horses!

Training starts at $500/month (as of Jan 2010).
